American Spikenard Root Cut (Aralia racemosa) – 450g

American Spikenard Root is a strongly aromatic North American botanical with a distinctive earthy, spicy and root-like scent.

The dried root has a warm, natural aroma with woody, slightly sweet and balsamic nuances. It is an unusual material for perfumers, incense makers and botanical scent students who enjoy exploring aromatic roots beyond more familiar materials such as orris, vetiver and angelica.

Aralia racemosa has a documented history in North American herbal and botanical traditions, where the aromatic root was used in a variety of preparations. Today, it offers an interesting material for scent evaluation, experimental extraction and botanical study.

Uses

Experimental Tincturing

Macerate a small quantity in high-proof ethanol to explore the aromatic character of the root as a botanical tincture. Evaluate the finished extract on a scent strip before introducing it into a fragrance composition.

Incense and Aromatic Blends

The dried root may be ground and explored in small quantities in botanical incense blends or gently warmed on a suitable electric incense heater.

Botanical Scent Study
